RADICAL ARTISTS TO PERFORM AT A SOCIAL FOR THE CAMPAIGN FOR A NEW WORKERS’ PARTY
For immediate use 15 January 2007
CNWP SOCIAL
FRIDAY JANUARY 19th
8 – 11.30pm
London Road Social Club, Paradise St, Coventry
The Campaign for a New Workers Party in Coventry and Warwickshire has organised a Social to raise funds for the project to build a new left political party. The national raffle for the CNWP will be drawn on the night. “We are delighted to have a number of local artists perform for us,” national CNWP Press Officer Pete McLaren said today, “including Rugby’s Will Carruthers and Paul Paranoid, and Kett Rebellion from Coventry”
CNWP national Chair Dave Nellist added, “The event will be graced by the presence of two local singer songwriters of the Midlands. Psychedelic Punk Veteran and ex-Spiritualized and Spacemen 3 member, Will Carruthers, brings his parched "Avon Delta" Blues songs and stories from his time touring with Rugby bands Spiritualized and Spacemen 3. Will is joined by veteran of the Rugby music scene, ex- My Darling Nihilist frontman Paul Paranoid. We will also feature ‘Kett Rebellion’, a four piece Coventry band performing folk/pop songs with a social/political content. The band’s name commemorates the1549 uprising against poverty and enclosures in Norwich led by Robert Kett”, Dave Nellist concluded.
Will Carruthers will play songs from his album ‘Home Improvement For Condemned Buildings’, a record that was completely created and themed around living in an abandoned house due for imminent demolition! This will be complemented by Paul Paranoid’s songs of neurotic obsession and interpersonal politics and a stage demeanour he describes as a cross between a fey Sid Vicious and a volatile Woody Allen.
